I purchased #D104 from Zanetti Bus Line in Rick Springs, Wy. Now this was a very unusual fishbowl and I was lucky to find it. It had a blown engine so I had it towed to California. Interestingly enough, the owner, Mr. Zanetti, was close to retirement. He ran this bus line that took people to the mines in that area. He tells me that the GM rep stopped by in late 1959 bragging about the new GM new Look Bus. Mr. Zanetti told him, "I will take two". The rep simply would not take him seriously, so he got him drunk and the order was made. The rep could not believe a small bus company in Wyoming would order these buses.
Anyway, the buses were delivered in March 1960. D103 was wrecked in a head-on collision not long after delivery . These were single door buses with forward facing hi back seats. Story was that GM had not come up with the suburban style buses yet. Mr. Zanetti insisted that D104 was a Suburban, but it was not. It was a standard transit single door. Only 6 of these buses were built. I overhauled the engine and updated it to my standards. The bus never gave me much trouble thereafter.
Fun Fleet bus #D104 was sold to a private party.
